Inground Pool Maintenance Tips Every Owner Should Know

Inground pools are a great way to improve the quality of your home, its value, and even spend more quality time with your family and friends. But, adding an inground pool is an investment many homeowners want to enjoy long-term. To make sure that happens, it’s incredibly important to conduct proper pool maintenance. If you have or are about to add an inground pool to your property, here are 5 inground pool maintenance tips that can help increase its lifespan!

1.) Check and Control the Water Quality

The most important inground pool maintenance effort concerns water quality. A pool without good water can even be dangerous to swim in because of all the bacteria it can accumulate over time. Moreover, if the pH of the water is off-balance, it can lead to calcium buildup around the edges of the pool.

You should be performing water quality testing at least once a week during the summer, and around 1-2 weeks during the winter time.

2.) Clean the Filter

The pool’s filter needs to be cleaned regularly to make sure everything is working as it should. You won’t need to do it as often as checking the water quality, but the filter does need to be cleaned at least twice a year. You should also inspect it after a heavy storm since it can lead to more buildup. This is one of several inground pool maintenance tips that should not go overlooked!

3.) Maintain Water Levels

Too much or too little water can cause a lot of unwanted problems. If there isn’t enough water in the pool, the pump may eventually run dry or even burn up. If the levels are too high, the skimmer door may not function properly.

Water levels can change from time to time because of heavy rain for instance, so it’s important to check these levels regularly and make sure the water doesn’t go over or under the halfway point of the inground pool skimmer.

4.) Skim and Scrub Regularly

Skimming involves removing the debris from pool water, such as leaves and dirt, which should be done daily to keep your pool looking clean. As for scrubbing, don’t worry, you won’t need to do it as often, but you should carefully scrub the singing of the pool every other week.

5.) Have It Professionally Cleaned and Inspected

Life gets pretty busy sometimes, and you may not be able to always find the time for pool maintenance. A great way to prolong the lifespan of the pool is to hire a professional to care for it regularly and check for any issues that need more attention.
